Welcome, Maswell choir members!

This page has links to the rehearsal recordings we made to enable people to practice songs for the online services during lockdown, but has been added to since. Contact Ian if you have any technical trouble.

If you need the words you can download our 2022 Carols on the Green Carol Sheet

Here are links to the audio files - you should find that you can play them from this web site, or download them if you need to.

How to Record Yourself

The easiest way is using two devices - one is for playing the guide track for you to sing along to and the other is for filming your performance.  You must be able to listen to the guide track on headphones (it doesn't matter what sort).   It's best if the device used to film you has a reasonable quality camera, but it doesn't have to be amazing.  If your own phone has a reasonable camera it will be easier to use that for the filming and the other device to play the guide track (this will make it easier to send the track on afterwards).

  1. First and most importantly, remember to smile and look happy!

  2. Ask a friend/spouse/neighbour/passing stranger to film you.

  3. Find a quiet spot where you be well lit.  Outside can work well if it's daytime (!!) and there's not too much background noise.  If you're indoors, you could stand near a window to get lots of light, but make sure the window's not behind you or you'll just be a silhouette! Try and find a room that's not too echoey but not too small - maybe a bedroom?  Be aware of what's behind you while you're record as that will also be in shot!  Maybe try a test photo before you commit to a whole recording.

  4. The closer you can get to the phone that's filming you the better it will sound - arms-length should be OK, and that should also get your head and shoulders nicely in the shot.

  5. Ask your partner in crime to start recording (make sure they keep the camera very still.  Best to hold it in portrait mode/vertical) then play the backing track on your other device and sing along!  Remember to smile!  Look into the camera and picture your future self on the other side of the lens enjoying watching this!  At the end of the song stay still for a few seconds before you stop recording.

  6. The video file will be too big to send by email.  The easiest way is to send it to me (Ian) or Ness via WhatsApp.  Most phones have a Share option from the video page that will allow you to select Whatsapp and then select the person you want it to go to.  If you don't have my contact details on WhatsApp you can add my phone number to your contacts and it should then appear.  The first part of my number is 07971, the second part is 325 and the last part is 629.  Hopefully splitting it up like that on this web page will stop it being harvested by robots!

  7. Last and most importantly, remember to smile and look happy!

If you have any problems please contact me and I'll try and sort you out - good luck!
